Alchemical and hermetic emblems CD-Rom Volume 1 276 images coloured by Adam McLean See Emblems Volume 2 See Emblems Volume 3 Over the past ten years or so I have been making handcoloured emblems by painting with watercolours copies of woodcuts and engravings from printed books and drawings from alchemical manuscripts. In colouring these I made use of my intensive study of the original coloured manuscripts of the 15th to 18th centuries, which have been the main focus of my research over many years.I have found that contemplation and meditation on these handcoloured images helps us resonate with and enter into the complex symbolic world of alchemy. In the autumn of 1999 I began to make these images available in the form of high quality prints that people could frame or use for study. In late 1999 I began my e-mail study course on the interpretation of alchemical imagery and I drew upon this resource for the course lessons. For various technical reasons, and to protect my copyright, it was not possible for me to provide high resolution scans of these images on the alchemy web site. This has now been remedied through issuing this CD-Rom.The images on this CD-Rom have been scanned at high resolution using low compression, so that users can zoom into small areas of the image to examine it in detail. I also provide most of the emblems as medium resolution jpg files in a special folder. This will enable people who prefer to look at images on paper to make reasonably sized printed copies. Such copies are for personal study only and must not be distributed or used in commercial projects. The 276 images are compiled into Adobe Acrobat files which make them accessible on both the Windows and Macintosh platforms. To view the images on this CD-Rom you will have to obtain a copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader. The Windows installation (version 5) is included on this disc. Versions for other computer systems are available free from the Adobe web site. This CD-Rom provides the images for viewing on a computer screen. It does not allow users to copy and paste the images. These images are for private study only, and purchasing this CD-Rom does not give the user the right to distribute these images (which are copyright by Adam McLean) on any medium, including Internet web sites, for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
